Wei Wei behaalt derde prijs op Europese REHVA Student Competition in Nice
Op 20 en 21 april vond de jaarlijkse REHVA Annual Meeting 2026 plaats in Nice. De bijeenkomst werd georganiseerd door de Franse partner AICVF.
Onderdeel van deze bijeenkomst is de REHVA Student Competition. In deze Europese competitie worden de beste HVAC-studenten onderscheiden. Elke lidorganisatie van REHVA mag één kandidaat per land voordragen. Deze kandidaat wordt geselecteerd via een nationale competitie. De inzendingen zijn gebaseerd op bachelor- of mastertheses en behandelen uiteenlopende onderwerpen binnen het vakgebied verwarming, ventilatie en airconditioning.
De competitie vindt plaats tijdens de REHVA Annual Meeting en biedt studenten een internationaal podium om hun kennis en vaardigheden te presenteren. In totaal namen dertien studenten uit verschillende Europese landen deel. Namens Nederland deed Wei Wei mee. Hij won eerder dit jaar de TVVL Dutch Nominee Competition en plaatste zich daarmee voor de Europese finale.
Op 20 april presenteerde hij zijn onderzoek naar energiezuinige koeling in kantoren met plafondventilatoren. De titel van zijn paper luidt: “OnlyFan: Office Desks as diffuser of ceiling fan airflow and collective comfort”. Met zijn duidelijke uitleg, humor en sterke technische onderbouwing behaalde hij de derde prijs. De eerste prijs ging naar Diana Lemain. Zij presenteerde een digitale tweeling van een thermische testpop voor onderzoek naar de kwaliteit van binnenklimaat.
De presentatie van Wei Wei laat zien hoe belangrijk jong talent is voor de verdere ontwikkeling van duurzame gebouwen en energiezuinige technieken. Het bestuur van TVVL is trots op zijn prestatie en feliciteert hem van harte met dit resultaat. Zijn onderzoek kwam tot stand onder begeleiding van prof. dr. ir. A.C. Boerstra en dr. A. Luna Navarro.

On April 20 and 21, the REHVA Annual Meeting 2026 took place in Nice. The event was organized by the French partner AICVF.
Part of this meeting is the REHVA Student Competition. On this European competition recognizes the most outstanding HVAC students. Each REHVA member association may nominate one candidate per country, selected through a national competition. The submissions are based on Bachelor’s or Master’s theses and cover a wide range of topics within the field of heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
The competition takes place during the REHVA Annual Meeting and provides students with an international platform to prsent their knowledge and skilss. In total, thirteen students form different European countires participated. Representing the Netherlands, Wei Wei took part in the competition. Earlier this year, he won the TVVL Dutch Nominee Competition, qualifying for the European final.
On 20 April, he presented his research on energy-efficient cooling in offices using ceiling fans. The titel of his paper was: “OnlyFans: Office Desks as diffuser of ceiling fan airflow and collective comfort”. With his clear explanation, sense of humor and strong technical foundation, he was awarded third prize. The first prize went to Diana Lemain. She prsented a digital twin of a thermal manikin for research on indoor climate quality.
Wei Wei’s achievement highlights the importance of young talent for the future development of sustainable buildings and energy-efficient technologies. The TVVL Board is proud of his accomplishment and warmly congratulates of him on this result. His research was carried out under the supervision of Prof. dr. ir. A.C. Boerstra and Dr. A. Luna Nacarro.
